![]() It comes with a suction-cup mount to attach it to the car windscreen, which says that it incorporates the GPS element. ![]() The storage is just a microSD card, so you could upgrade it at a later date. I tested the 32GB version, which gives a four-hour backup, but it’s also available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB versions, with backups of 9, 18 and 36 hours respectively. Like smart cameras and doorbells, it’s common to pay extra for a subscription to such a service. Unusually for an affordable dashcam, it comes with “free unlimited cloud storage”. The field of view is 135° (measured diagonally). It records 1080p full high-definition footage that’s GPS tagged, recording the location for the benefit of police and insurers. The camera is compact, not much bigger than a matchbox, so it’s designed to hide behind your car’s rear-view mirror, out of sight. Like Goldilocks’s porridge, the Nexar Beam is just right. Below it is a cheaper model without built-in GPS. Above it is a pricier model boasting a second camera that points backwards into the cabin for Carpool Karaoke-style interior footage. Highly recommended. The Beam sits in the middle of Nexar’s range of dashcams – mini cameras designed to film through your windscreen as you drive. The video footage is crisp and clean, even at night, and the free unlimited cloud storage and excellent Nexar app make the Nexar Pro Dual a cut or two above most other offerings under the $200 dashcam tier. But as it stands, the Nexar Pro Dual is an excellent choice for any driver, but especially so for those that drive a lot, such as truck drivers, rideshare drivers and delivery drivers. That would likely boost the price of the system, but it’s already a solid bargain and I’b be happy to pay another $50 for that third view of coverage. If I had to make any changes to the Nexar Pro Dual system, I’d make the rear-facing camera a standard feature on the main camera body and allow the separate camera to be a “third’ eye in the system. ![]() The app’s ease of use is excellent Nexar has done a great job making it simple and intuitive. Additionally, the Nexar app includes a full-screen GPS feature so you don’t have to hop around between apps to see the camera video and GPS. Deleting clips on your phone also deletes them from the cloud. Nexar says their cloud storage system is unlimited and free, and that was the experience I had. A 32gb card was included with the camera, which will use cards as large as 256gb. As the memory limit is reached, old clips are automatically deleted to make room for new ones both on the SD card and your phone. The app lets drivers limit how much phone memory the app uses so you don’t clog up your phone with dashcam footage. While driving, the Nexar Pro system is actually saving video three ways: to an SD card in the camera itself, to your phone through wifi, and to the cloud either as you drive or when you are on wifi from your phone, options which can be set up in the app. Nexar’s direct-to-phone streaming ability - not so unusual these days but definitely a bonus at this price point - is secondary to the most impressive and useful Nexar Pro perk: cloud storage. The Nexar app includes full GPS so drivers don't have to hop around between apps while driving.
